In remarks made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the CEO of American company NVIDIA stated that the field of artificial intelligence still needs trillions of dollars to develop its infrastructure.
“We must build infrastructure costing trillions of dollars,” he said, referring to power plants, cloud computing centers, and even electronic components.
He pointed out that the development of generative artificial intelligence “has launched the largest infrastructure project in human history. And today we are at the level of hundreds of billions of dollars.”
It is worth noting that NVIDIA, whose chips are indispensable for the majority of AI developers, reached an unprecedented market valuation exceeding five trillion dollars in October, but has since lost more than 600 billion.
Warning of an AI Bubble Burst
Other companies in the sector, such as the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot, have attracted large investments in recent years, prompting some analysts to warn of an artificial intelligence bubble burst.

The CEO has consistently refuted this hypothesis, and on Wednesday he reiterated his position, saying, “The AI bubble… exists because the investments are large. And these investments are large because we need to build the necessary infrastructure for all layers of AI. And the opportunity is truly fantastic in my view.”
In response to a question about the potential implications of AI for eliminating some jobs, he said that investments in infrastructure create new opportunities in some fields, stressing that this “will provide many job opportunities.”
As for the CEO of Microsoft, who spoke yesterday in Davos, he said for his part, “For it not to turn into a bubble, by definition, the returns must be distributed more fairly.”
He affirmed, “I am convinced that it is a technology… that will benefit economic growth all over the world, and not just economic growth driven by investments.”
