US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne in response to his counterpart Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to join the “Peace Council” he is working to establish.

He told journalists in Florida on Monday, “I will impose a 200% tariff on (French-exported) wine and champagne… He will agree to join, but he is not obligated to agree,” according to reports.

Sources close to Macron indicated that Paris “will not comply” with the invitation to join the “Peace Council” at this stage.
