The hopes of veteran American star Venus Williams for a strong return to the tennis courts faded after she lost her match against Serbian Olga Danilović 7-6, 3-6, 4-6, in the match held this Sunday as part of the first round of the Australian Open tennis tournament.
It seemed that Venus Williams (45 years old) was on her way to winning her first match in a Grand Slam tennis tournament since her first-round victory at Wimbledon in 2021, but Danilović won six consecutive games in the final set to secure her place in the second round.

Williams, a winner of seven Grand Slam titles, who returned to the tennis courts last season after a 16-month hiatus, received a wild card to become the oldest player ever to participate in the main draw of the women’s singles. Her participation also marks a return to the tournament after a five-year absence.
Williams, who will continue her journey at the Australian Open in the doubles competition, said: “I felt good when I was leading 4-0, it’s the biggest lead I’ve had since my return. I had to relearn how to do a lot of things again.”
