NASA announced on Thursday that the four members of the International Space Station crew will return to Earth earlier than planned due to a health issue affecting one of the astronauts, marking the first evacuation of its kind in the station’s history.
Officials did not provide details about the nature of the health problem, but stated that the astronaut, whose name was not disclosed, was in good condition.
It was explained that a “continuing risk” and “uncertainty regarding the diagnosis” were the reasons behind the decision to bring the crew back earlier than scheduled, while emphasizing that this was not an emergency evacuation.

First Medical Evacuation
It was stated, “This is the first time we have conducted a planned medical evacuation from the station.”
American astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Russian astronaut Oleg Platonov joined the International Space Station in August and were expected to stay there for approximately six months.
