Tripoli, January 11, 2026 – The President of the Presidential Council met separately today, Sunday, at the Council’s headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, with two delegations: one from the dignitaries and elders of the city of Murzuq, and another from the dignitaries and elders of the city of Zintan.
The meeting discussed the pathways of the national reconciliation project, consolidating the principles of transitional justice and reparations, as well as ways to rebuild and promote sustainable development in the Murzuq region.
In the meeting with the Zintan delegation, the focus was on discussing a number of important files related to the general situation in Zintan.

Tripoli
Tripoli is the capital and largest city of Libya, located on the country’s Mediterranean coast. Historically, it was founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC and later became a significant Roman city, with its old town, the medina, reflecting centuries of influence from Arab, Ottoman, and Italian rule.
Presidential Council
The Presidential Council is a governing body often established in countries during transitional periods or political crises, where executive authority is shared collectively rather than vested in a single president. Historically, such councils have been formed to ensure stability, represent diverse factions, and guide nations toward new constitutions or elections, as seen in contexts like post-revolutionary Libya or Yemen.
Murzuq
Murzuq is a historic oasis town located in southwestern Libya, traditionally serving as a key crossroads for trans-Saharan trade routes. It was historically the capital of the Fezzan region and a major center for the slave trade in the 19th century.
Zintan
Zintan is a city in northwestern Libya known for its strategic location in the Nafusa Mountains. Historically, it played a significant role during the 2011 Libyan Civil War as a stronghold for anti-Gaddafi forces. The area is also recognized for its Berber (Amazigh) cultural heritage and traditional mountain architecture.
