Houn, January 10, 2026 – The Office of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in Al Jufra called upon mosque preachers in all areas within the municipality to address the topic of the spread of the red palm weevil infestation due to the losses it causes to this wealth.

In a statement, it urged the preachers on the importance of raising citizens’ awareness about the danger of this pest and the damage it causes to palm trees, date crops, and agricultural wealth in general, as well as the importance of early reporting when its presence is suspected.

It emphasized the necessity of stressing cooperation with the relevant authorities to limit its spread in order to preserve the public interest.

It is worth noting that a number of palm farms in Sokna have been exposed to the spread of the red palm weevil infestation and are currently being treated by the specialized experts in this matter within the agriculture sector of Al Jufra municipality.
