Injury ends Onahi's Africa Cup of Nations journey

It has been officially confirmed that Moroccan national team midfielder, Ezzedine Ounahi, will miss the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament after sustaining an injury that will prevent him from continuing the competition with the Atlas Lions.

Around the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Ezzedine Ounahi was seen walking on crutches, wearing a leg brace, before the start of the Moroccan national team’s match against Tanzania in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. This scene confirmed the difficulty of him catching up with the remaining matches of the tournament.

Final Diagnosis of the Injury Announced
Details of the player’s injury were revealed in media statements, confirming that Ounahi sustained the injury during the final training sessions.

It was stated: “Ezzedine Ounahi suffered an injury during training, as he is suffering from a torn calf muscle, an injury that will prevent him from playing for the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations competitions.”

A Painful Blow to the Atlas Lions’ Midfield
Ounahi’s absence is a significant loss for the Moroccan national team, given the pivotal role he plays in midfield, both in linking the lines and providing attacking support. This forces the technical staff to search for suitable alternatives in the crucial stages of the tournament.

Romain Saïss Supports Injured Teammate
For his part, Romain Saïss, defender and captain of the Moroccan national team, expressed his full support for his teammate Ounahi, acknowledging the difficult situation the player is going through at this sensitive time.

Saïss said in statements: “Ounahi has gone through difficult moments. It is very complicated when such an injury occurs in a major tournament, especially with the close proximity of matches and the pressure of competition.”
