Real Madrid has received a significant blow with the confirmed news that their star player Kylian Mbappe will be absent from upcoming competitions due to a left knee sprain.
It is expected that the French international will be sidelined for at least 3 weeks.
An MRI scan conducted on Wednesday morning revealed he suffered a sprain in his left knee.
The French international player, who had been struggling with this injury for several weeks, had been pushing hard to break the record for the most goals scored by a Real Madrid player in a single calendar year (59 goals, tied with Cristiano Ronaldo).
His Return for the Monaco Match is in Doubt
If the expected absence is confirmed, Mbappe will miss important matches for Real Madrid, most notably the game against Real Betis, all Spanish Super Cup fixtures, the Copa del Rey round of 16, as well as matches against Levante and Monaco.
His participation in matches against Villarreal, Benfica, and Rayo Vallecano is also in doubt, dealing a heavy blow to the royal club during a crucial stage of the season, pending further medical evaluation in the coming days.
At best, Mbappe is expected to return on January 20th, the date of the Champions League match against Monaco.
