Arsenal regained the top spot in the English Premier League football table with a 2-1 victory over visiting Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

This marks the second consecutive round where Arsenal has started its journey after being displaced from the top of the Premier League table by Manchester City’s win over Nottingham Forest earlier in the day. However, the team managed by Mikel Arteta reclaimed its position at the summit.

Odegaard opens the scoring for Arsenal
Despite being affected by a knee injury this season, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard displayed his customary precision in the 14th minute, firing a low left-footed shot into the net.

Arsenal completely dominated the flow of the match and doubled its lead with an own goal scored by Georginio Rutter in the 52nd minute. Brighton offered very little in attack until Diego Gomez scored a goal in the 64th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from a Yassine Aïari shot that hit the post.

Brighton pressed hard late in the match and nearly equalized were it not for a brilliant save by David Raya to deny Yankuba Minteh’s shot. Arsenal held firm until the final whistle, raising its points tally to 42 from 18 matches, two points ahead of Manchester City, which has 40 points.
