The Libyan News Agency was established by Resolution No. 17 of 1964, issued on October 1, 1964, under the name Libyan News Agency.

Its name changed several times, and then the Libyan News Agency resumed its broadcast under its original founding name from 1964, “Libyan News Agency” (LANA), based on a decision by the Information Affairs office of the Executive Bureau of the National Transitional Council in 2011.

Libyan News Agency

The Libyan News Agency (LANA) is the official state news agency of Libya, founded in 1964 during the monarchy of King Idris. It has served as the primary government mouthpiece through subsequent regimes, including Muammar Gaddafi’s rule, and continues to operate as a key media institution in the country.

National Transitional Council

The National Transitional Council was a political body formed in Benghazi, Libya, in February 2011 during the Libyan Civil War, acting as the interim government in opposition to Muammar Gaddafi’s regime. It gained international recognition as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people and oversaw the country’s transition until the declaration of liberation and the formation of a new government.
